Front Runner New Jersey.com Dine-In: Marge’s Diner – Small, Cozy Place with a Big, Delicious Taste
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the first column of a new feature in Front Runner New Jersey.com called “Front Runner New Jersey.com Dine-In.” Here, we will introduce you to some of our favorite restaurants and why we believe you will like them, too. Each place, we have eaten at personally without identifying ourselves to get the true flavor and feel of the establishment. We focus on small, locally-owned eateries because we honestly believe this is where the most authentic food is made, by someone from the heart sharing it with the world. It’s like what we do with Front Runner New Jersey.com. I hope you enjoy these reviews as much we enjoy eating at these locations, and maybe one day you will join us or try one of them yourself.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — For our very first stop, we dined at Marge’s Diner located at 1974 US-9, in Cape May Court House, which is open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For local history buffs, Marge’s Diner was opened by Marge Gibson in 1947, (hence the name) and has always been a popular local staple. To keep this local gem going, in 1983, Albert Deluca purchased the diner and ran it until his unfortunate passing on July 8, 2024. Today, Marge’s is run by Sharon Martin who carries the torch of this fine establishment.
Marge’s Diner is small and quaint, but mostly always busy, as we found out during our visit when we went there for lunch. When we arrived, about 11:30 a.m., we had to wait to be seated,
but only about 10-15 minutes. My thought was, if there is a wait, the food must be good.
Our server came right over and took our beverage orders (no alcohol is served here). Me and my wife opted for water and lemon, while my son ordered a club soda with lemon. Our server came back quickly with our beverages and took our orders. I ordered their Clermont Special Wrap. My wife ordered their popular Turkey Club, and my son ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap.
Sandwiches here are commonly served with chips, but me and my son opted for a side of fries each. My Clermont Wrap contained mouth-watering moist steak, sautéed mushrooms, hot cherry peppers and cheddar cheese done to tasty perfection. My wife’s Turkey Club had crisp bacon, turkey, mayo, lettuce and tomato on toasted wheat, identically reminiscent of the popular diner classic with a personal touch that is their own.Photo by
My son’s Buffalo Chicken Wrap contained golden fried breaded chicken tenders, tangy buffalo sauce, mild cheddar cheese with ranch substituted instead of the standard bleu cheese. All orders arrived hot, neatly prepared and assembled and the fries were done perfectly. It was delicious hands down.
One thing we couldn’t ignore, is the fact that the three of us left there satisfied and filled for $41.30.
Overall, Marge’s Diner is a wonderful place that you surely want to dine at. It is neat and clean, with ample parking, and the wait staff that is attentive, courteous and friendly.
It is one of those charming “mom and pop” places where, before you know it, you are having conversations with the regulars that dine there. Whilst enjoying our meal, a table
near us had a birthday and nearly half the diner joined in to sing Happy Birthday. You got to love the local charm.
“We come here all the time,” said a local that sat near us enjoying their order from the breakfast menu. I can see why, and we will surely be back in the very near future to try out their breakfast.
In this current economy, where the prices of so many establishments have gone way up, Marge’s Diner is a breath of fresh air where the prices remain fair with generous, filling portions of delicious food.
So, if you are ever traveling south down Route 9 towards Cape May, do yourself a big favor and look to the left and stop at Marge’s Diner. You will not be disappointed.
