Camden Hosts 3 Kings Celebration After Delay

CAMDEN — On January 11th, the Camden County Board of Commissioners hosted a Three Kings Day event at the Parish of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on 642 Market Street.
Originally postponed due to the snowstorm, over 200 parents and community members gathered to enjoy the music and holiday activities the event had to offer.

Camden County Commissioner Victoria Betteridge expressed the importance of the occasion, stating, “We’re delighted that Camden County has embraced the opportunity to bring Latino and Hispanic families together with government programs to show that they embrace all cultures and all beliefs.”
Her sentiments were echoed by N.J. Sen. Nilsa Cruz-Perez, who highlighted the unique efforts of the county, saying, “Camden County is the only county in the state of New Jersey to have an Office of Hispanic Affairs, and we’re very grateful to have been hosting this for the past 14 years. This event is open to everybody as we find it important to share our traditions with the rest of the community so we can better understand each other.”

The festive spirit was palpable throughout the evening, as children danced and clapped along to the live music performed by the Trio Renacer band. The joyous melodies set the tone for a celebration of unity and culture.
Smiles stretched across the faces of young attendees as they received toys donated through the Toys for Tots program, facilitated by Joel Incanpela, who added an extra touch of magic by dressing up as one of the Three Kings.
Camden, is a city rich in cultural diversity, with Hispanic or Latino residents comprising approximately 54.2% of the population as of 2024.
This vibrant demographic contributes significantly to the city’s cultural tapestry, bringing traditions, languages, and celebrations that enrich the community. Events like the Three Kings Day celebration not only honor these traditions but also provide an opportunity for residents of all backgrounds to come together in a shared festivity.
