Cape May NAACP Keynote Speaker Expert on Timely Subject of DEI

WHITESBORO — Retired educator and author Janis Washington White keynote speech at the upcoming Cape May County NAACP Freedom Fund Gala on Saturday, March 15 at the Wildwood Convention Center will be relevant to one of the hottest topics of the day — DEI.
A veteran of diversity in the education field, the West Cape May native, is an expert on diversity topics, and her recent book “Erasing Bias from the Classroom: A Guide to Fostering Self-awareness, Open Dialogue, and Advocacy,” delves into eliminating those discriminatory factors.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives are currently under attack by the federal government with many of the countries largest corporations following suit by rolling back their work on diversity within their own space.
“Janis Washington White’s dedication to fostering connection, equity, and opportunity makes her an inspiring keynote speaker for [the March 15] event,” said the Cape May NAACP in their information on the gala. “[She] brings a deep connection to her community and a wealth of expertise to every endeavor.
“Janis has been a dedicated advocate for community engagement, serving on various advisory boards.”
Washington White is a member of Cape May MAC’s Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) Team, where she promotes inclusive practices that honor the richness of local history and diversity.
As a member of the Cape May Stage Board of Directors, Washington White combines her passion for the arts with her commitment to meaningful community involvement. Her passion for
education and advocacy culminated in the publication of her book.
She has her bachelor’s in human resources management and a master’s in community counseling. Washington White has built an extensive career that bridges corporate leadership, community development, and education.
Her professional journey includes serving as a non-profit executive director and a 21-year tenure as a certified school counselor. She continues to empower others as a certified life coach, drawing on her vast experience to inspire growth and self-awareness.
A tribute will be given to Shirley Wilson at the event, and Lifetime Awards will be given to Bernard Blanks, Sr., Donald Hamer Sr., and Dr. Charles Payne. Shirley Rebecca “Becki” Wilson will receive Lois Smith Tribute Award.
Other awardees include Chase Jackson, for the arts; Burgess Hamer, for humanitarian work; Hope Harris and Mary Helen Perez, for community service; Kiana Bryan for business; Radzieta Funeral Home, for business; and Cape Assist, for health. Clyde Hughes, of Front Runner New Jersey.com, will receive a special recognition award.
