WOODBURY — Bright and vibrant, the Cultural Collective Cafe & Bricknkulture Event Space has quickly become a must stop attraction, located at 65 North Broad Street in Woodbury.

The Cultural Collective Cafe & Bricknkulture Event Space is a hub for community engagement and connection in Woodbury. The cafe is full of unique, local artwork, including vibrant murals completed by Kimisha Turner and De’von Downes.

Cultural Collective Cafe & Bricknkulture Event Space hosts a range of workshops including fitness classes, music events and working sessions. Within the event space, the intentionality and culture is communicated through music, decor and staff. Ingredients at the cafe, such as loose-leaf teas, are sourced locally from other small businesses.

Sadiyyah Maamoon, local realtor and businesswoman, opened the cafe with a goal of community connection. Since opening the cafe, she has dealt with many adversities including navigating the COVID 19 Pandemic as a new Black and woman owned business.

The Cultural Collective Cafe and Bricknkulture Event Space is continuing to grow into a loved gathering space amongst Woodbury.

“We host plenty of events, you are welcome to come into the community and host your own events. We do weddings. We do all of the above,” she said.

On April 10, the Cultural Collective Cafe & Bricknkulture Event Space transformed into a Bridgerton-themed performance space. Bridgerton is a popularized historical fiction television series available on Netflix. Attendees wore florals or lace, small dessert towers centered each table, and the room was buzzing with energy from artists ready to share.

Cultural Collective Cafe and Bricknkulture with the Meraki Collective hosted Open Mic Night, a family friendly event, which gives local artists a platform to share poetry, comedy, music and more.

Ashlyn Goins, a young creative artist, frequents events at Bricknkulture. Goins mentioned the comfortability of the space and how much it has helped her grow as a neurodivergent artist of color.

“I’m autistic myself, so sometimes I can’t, you know, express myself and people have been very accommodating, very loving,” Goins said. “It’s a very, just, open space for everybody. It doesn’t matter who it is.”

This upcoming Friday, May 1 at 6 p.m., the Cultural Collective Cafe & Bricknkulture Event Space will be holding Shut Up & Read (and Write), an intimate evening of reflection, creativity, and meaningful conversation.

The event will include guided journaling and conversations, with special guest Jeannine A. Cook. Cook is a well-known author and founder of both Harriett’s Bookshop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Ida’s Bookshop in Collingswood. Tickets are available on the website https://linktr.ee/TheCulturalCollective.
