GALLOWAY – Two local political leaders of color have been named to guide the Atlantic County Democratic Committee, the organization said on Tuesday.

The committee unanimously elected Walead Abdrabouh as its new chair, ushering in a new chapter for the organization. Educator Dr. Hollisha Bridgers of Atlantic City was chosen as vice chair.

Abdrabouh succeeds Michael Suleiman, whose decade of leadership helped grow and strengthen the Democratic Party across the county, the committee said in a statement.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by the confidence that the members of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee have placed in me,” said Abdrabouh in a statement released by the committee.

“With a strong foundation built by this organization and prior leadership, I step into this role focused on strengthening our communities, developing future leaders, expanding engagement, and building a culture of collaboration.”

Along with Bridgers, the committee named Sajid Khan of Atlantic City as treasurer, Barbara Makoski of Egg Harbor Township as secretary, Brian Stein of Linwood as deputy treasurer, and Kimberly O’Brien of Somers Point as assistant secretary.

Creed Pogue of Estell Manor and Yolanda Cooper of Hamilton Township will serve as sergeants-at-arms.

Bridgers lauded the new Atlantic County Democrats leadership team.

“I look forward to working with Walead and the rest of the dedicated members of our executive board,” said Bridgers. “We have a strong, committed team in place, and I am confident in our ability to work together effectively as we move the organization forward.”

Abdrabouh said the party’s priorities will center on strengthening relationships with local communities, expanding grassroots connections, cultivating a new generation of Democratic candidates throughout Atlantic County, and fostering sustained community engagement.

“This is not about any one individual,” Abdrabouh said. “It is about building an organization that welcomes participation, values service, and works every day to earn the trust of the people we represent. Together, we will continue building a stronger Democratic Party and a stronger Atlantic County.”
