BRIDGETON — Alfredo Cruz’s story is one of determination, creativity, and deep community pride, a journey that has now earned him recognition as a member of the Front Runner New Jersey 30 Under 40 Top Latino Leaders of South Jersey, Class of 2026, sponsored by Franklin Bank.

For Bridgeton, his honor is more than a personal achievement; it reflects the spirit of a young leader who has turned his craft into a platform for opportunity, culture, and service.

A Barber Who Built a Movement

Cruz is the owner of Faded Underground, a modern barbershop located at 458 Irving Avenue in Bridgeton. The shop has become known for its clean fades, sharp beard work, and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere — a place where style meets community.

According to public listings, Faded Underground offers precision cuts, beard grooming, kids’ services, and a curated selection of men’s grooming products, all delivered by a team committed to quality and detail.

But for Cruz, barbering has always been about more than haircuts. As he shared in his bio, he built Faded Underground as “a space centered on culture, creativity, opportunity, and community.”

He uses barbering and content creation to tell real stories, connect with people, and inspire the next generation — especially young people in Bridgeton who see in him a reflection of their own potential.

Fresh Start Fest: Community Impact in Action

One of Cruz’s most meaningful contributions is Fresh Start Fest, a back?to?school community event he created to support local families.

The event brought together barbers, stylists, nail techs, businesses, and volunteers to provide free haircuts, school supplies, food, and activities — a full-circle moment for Cruz, who once studied cosmetology in the same high school where he returned years later as a business owner.

He reflected recently on Facebook on the Fresh Start experience:

“From being in the cosmetology program with Julz… to coming back years later as two shop owners, with our own teams, giving free haircuts to the next generation. What a blessing… Never forget where you came from.”

The event, held in partnership with SHEARS Hair Studio, was described by Cruz as a “vibe” filled with good cuts, great energy, and gratitude for the educators who welcomed them back.

A Leader Rooted in Bridgeton — and in His Heritage

Cruz’s recognition as a 30 Under 40 honoree carries deep personal meaning. Born in a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico, he has never forgotten the journey that brought him to Bridgeton — nor the responsibility he feels to uplift others.

“Coming from a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico, this means the world to me — especially for Hispanic Heritage Month… From having nothing to barbering, to building Faded Underground, giving back to my community, and creating something my family can be proud of, I’m grateful for every step of the journey.”

He dedicated the honor to his family, his community, and “everyone out there with big dreams,” signing off with his motto: Craft Over Clout. Always.

Community members echo that sentiment. Edgar Aquino Huerta shared:

“No one deserves this powerful recognition more than Alfredo. He has created opportunities in Bridgeton and loves giving back. He is young and has become a great leader, setting a great example for new generations.”

A Family Committed to Community

Cruz’s wife, Yelitza Ramos, is also an entrepreneur and a passionate advocate for the local Hispanic community. Her public message posted in December reflects the couple’s shared commitment to compassion, justice, and solidarity:

“Families are hurting. Parents are scared. Children are confused… Please know this: you are not alone. Your life has value. Your presence matters… Our community is strong because of the love, resilience, and humanity we show one another.”

She also called for accountability among Latino business owners who supported policies harming immigrant families, writing:

“Was lowering your taxes really worth the spread of fear and hatred across our country? Our community deserves better.”

Her words underscore the values that define the Cruz family — courage, honesty, and unwavering support for those facing hardship.

For Alfredo Cruz, success is not measured by recognition but by impact. Through Faded Underground, Fresh Start Fest, and his everyday work behind the barber chair, he continues to create opportunities, uplift Bridgeton’s youth, and honor the community that shaped him.
