WILLINGBORO — The Willingboro Recreation and Parks Department honored six women on Sunday [April 23] during the 11th annual Phenomenal Women Award Dinner.
The dinner, created by former Willingboro Recreation and Parks Director Jill Cyrus, was created to bring attention to and celebrate women who are making an impact in the community while they are still here. Cyrus celebrated 32 years of service and retired from Willingboro Township in 2021.
“I’m always honored to acknowledge women who are doing their thing and making an impact,” current parks director Dionne Bolden said. “They are strong, bold, and beautiful and a true asset to the community.”
She said Willingboro Township is aware that some of the best, brightest, and most brilliant women reside in the community, and would like an opportunity to honor them at this year’s event.
Dr. Neely Hackett, the former Willingboro School District superintendent and honoree for education, was the event’s keynote speaker.
Other honorees included:
- Alpha Andrews — Social Advocacy Award
- Shakirra Howard — Business/Entrepreneurship Award
- Patricia Lindsay-Harvey — Government Award
- Veyonce Torres — Youth Trailblazer Award
- Rev. Dr. Danetta McCain — Jill C. Cyrus Lifetime Achievement Award
The event was held at the John F. Kennedy Center.
