Regis then matched that amount, giving the chapter its scholarship total, said Kaleem Shabazz, president of the Atlantic City NAACP and Atlantic City council vice president.

Regis, a member of the Atlantic City NAACP executive board,  is a board-certified Ob/Gyn physician, who has established himself as a successful entrepreneur during the past 35-plus years. He was one of the first physician executives in the practice management industry while developing and providing an urban-based medical practice group.

He received his bachelor and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina and completed his medical residency at Hahnemann Hospital and Medical Center in Philadelphia.

Regis then became medical director for Vanguard Medical Associates, one of the first single-specialty practice management companies in the country. He had served as president and CEO of the Reliance Medical Group since 1986 and recently sold the business.

The Atlantic City NAACP continues to prepare for the upcoming NAACP national convention, which will be held in the resort city in July.
