LINWOOD — In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, the Public Relations Council of Greater Atlantic City will present Sherri Richmond and Brian Cahill of Shore Medical Center at their Tuesday, April 28, luncheon.
The event will be held at the Linwood Country Club from 11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Cost for the luncheon is $45 for members and $60 for non-members with a reservation. Walk-ins are charged an additional $5. Reservation deadline is Friday, April 24. To register, visit: https://tinyurl.com/mswft8kw.
The speakers will showcase how Shore is advancing compassionate, inclusive care for neurodiverse members of the community across multiple points of care.
Autism is of particular concern to communities of color. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and studies from the National Institutes of Health, African Americans had the highest prevalence of autism from ages 3-17 between 2014-2019 (2.85%).
While the prevalence among Latinos (1.94%) remains low compared to Blacks and Whites (2.65%), it’s an increase of 40% over that time, which has been contributed to better screening, awareness, and access to diagnostic services in historically underserved communities.
The event will also highlight PR with a purpose and building sensory care through community connection. The PR component will emphasize community collaboration, media outreach, as well as a few public relations and marketing tips.
Richmond, Administrative Director of the Emergency Department, Pediatrics, and Respiratory Services, and Cahill, Administrative Director of Marketing and Public Relations, will discuss Shore’s Sensory Care Programs.
