HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Former Atlantic City school board member and longtime Atlantic City Police Department staffer Dr. Thelma Witherspoon is trying to win one of two spots on the Hamilton Township Committee Board.

She won the most votes in the Atlantic County District 3 Commissioners’ race as a Democrat in 2020, but a balloting snafu by the Atlantic County Clerk’s Office led a county judge to order a do-over in last year, which was won by Egg Harbor Township Committeeman Andrew Parker III.

Paid for by Tim Alexander for Congress.

Witherspoon, who is running with Democrat Raymond Keilman, also serves as vice chair of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee. Witherspoon had served as the former 2nd Vice President of the Atlantic City Chapter of the NAACP and is the pastor of the Westminister Christian Worship Center in Atlantic City. She is a member of the Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City and Vicinity.

A graduate of Jameson Bible School and the International Christian University, she was an honoree for the Atlantic City Hometown Heroes in 2017 and also an honoree for the 2022 New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award. Witherspoon is also a radio host on two-time Stella Award WEHA Gospel 88.7 and 100.3 FM every Saturday morning.
