VINELAND – On May 28, the historic Landis Theater came alive with the energy of more thanr 300 community members gathering for the inaugural Athlete Leadership Summit. Organized by Outta Boundz and powered by The Brand Placement Agency.

The event broke the traditional sports mold — instead of focusing solely on athletic stats, the summit honored 100 middle and high school athletes from Bridgeton, Vineland, Millville, Cumberland, and Schalick for their exceptional leadership both on and off the field.

The inspiration for the summit stems from a critical realization by its founders: while local youth are frequently celebrated for scoring points and winning games, their personal growth, resilience, and community impact often go unnoticed. Organizers wanted to create a platform that redefines what it means to be an MVP.

The vision was to break down the silos of rival school districts and bring athletes from different sports and backgrounds together under one roof.

By shifting the spotlight from raw athletic talent to character and mentorship, the summit was intentionally designed to honor these young people in a fundamentally different way—equipping them to be champions in life, long after they hang up their jerseys.

The evening struck a powerful chord of community and purpose, made possible by title sponsors Mayor Anthony Fanucci of the City of Vineland and the CompleteCare Health Network. Every honored student-athlete took home an official summit T-shirt, marking their entry into a network of young leaders.

“Honoring young athletes as leaders gives them a responsibility and accountability that will hold one another accountable,” James Cooper, founder of The Brand Placement Agency, said.

Cooper credits his executive administrator at The Brand Placement Agency, Sharon Belfield, for her tireless efforts in connecting and communicating with every parent of the athletes and coaches.

The spirit of leadership extended to the community’s dedicated mentors. Outstanding leadership awards were presented to Coach David Gonzalez (Bridgeton High School) and Coach Willis “Woody” Humphries (Millville High School).

Longtime activist Hassan Hameed-El received a Lifetime Mentorship Award, and a moving tribute was given by Chasmine Mosley in honor of the Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley Scholarship.

Special team honors celebrated the Vineland Midget Football League Girls Flag Football team and the SBLOL ACADEMY basketball league, led by owner Tanaza Ford, ahead of their upcoming tournament trip to Las Vegas this July.

In a surprise presentation, Fanucci and Vineland City Council member Cruz Gomez presented Cooper with an Appreciation Award. Reflecting on the moment, Cooper shared that the honor meant the world to him, representing the countless hours and years he has spent pouring into the area’s youth.

Beyond celebration, the summit focused heavily on equipping youth for the future. Two all-star panels moderated by Sherene Colson, with insights from JT Burks of Positive Vibes Community, took the stage:

The NovaCare Rehabilitation Panel featured Richard Douglas, Lois Koering, and Paul Gause (PG Training) discussing critical mental and physical wellness strategies.

The New York Life Financial Responsibility & NIL Panel brought together Jessica Sarter, Dann Kabala (Rutgers University R-NIL), Matt Skinner (Lyons & Associates NIL), and Trust Cooper (Owner of Field Drip) to demystify sports marketing and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) resources.

The event also prioritized immediate community giveback. Thanks to the United Advocacy Group Youth Sports Scholarship Program, a total of $1,250 was donated to three local sports organizations.

Cooper and Outta Boundz CEO Dan Sinclair kept the crowd on their feet during a high-energy games and trivia segment, handing out $250 in prizes to the audience.

Cooper extended his deepest gratitude to the entire Brand Placement Agency team, which reaches partners across Florida, Georgia, Ohio, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, with even more territories currently being added. He also shared a special thank you to his Delaware partner, Roosevelt Thomas (aka “Big Frank”), owner of Trust Your Hustle.

Thomas and his company will play a major part in orchestrating the expansion of The Athlete Leadership Summit into Delaware starting this fall.

With the success of the inaugural launch cementing a new standard for youth recognition, organizers are already looking forward to it. The next Athlete Leadership Summit is scheduled for July 12th at Salem Community College in Salem, as the event gears up for an expansive 40-location tour spanning 2026 and 2027.
