With Women’s History Month underway, communities across Burlington County are taking time to celebrate the women who shaped their lives, neighborhoods, and local history.
From scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors to empowerment workshops and community award ceremonies, here are some events and opportunities happening near you this month.
‘Strike it Strong Safety and Empowerment Workshop’ with Senator Troy Singleton
Women and girls 14 and older are invited to a free self-defense and situational awareness workshop on Wednesday, March 18, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Kennedy Center in Willingboro. Hosted by Sen. Troy Singleton’s office in partnership with Strike It Strong, participants will learn safety basics in a supportive, inclusive environment. Space is limited and registration is required. Purple Perimenopausal Pajama Party in Evesham Township
Women experiencing menopause and perimenopause are invited to a free Purple Perimenopausal Pajama Party on Sunday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Adjust Your Sleep Mattress Boutique in the Greentree Square Shopping Center. Supported by Evesham Township, the party is designed to help women navigate perimenopause and menopause alongside a community that understands what they are going through. Attendees can expect swag bags, B-12 shots, a pajama contest and visits with local women business owners and officials. Attendance is free but RSVP is requested. Women’s History Month Quote Gallery at Willingboro Library
The Willingboro Library invites visitors to explore its Women’s History Month Quote Gallery throughout March. Displayed in the Young Adult room, the ongoing exhibit features quotes from notable women for visitors to browse at their own pace. The gallery is open during regular library hours. Visitors are encouraged to return on
Friday, March 27, at 3 p.m. for a community discussion on their favorite and most inspiring quotes from the display.
14th Annual ‘Phenomenal Women Awards Celebration’ at the Kennedy Center
Six women will be honored for their contributions to Burlington County at the 14th annual Phenomenal Women Awards Celebration on Sunday, March 29, at 3 p.m. at the Kennedy Center in Willingboro. This year’s honorees are Malikah Morris, Claudine Archer, Nancy Miller, Amber Henley, Antonia Williams and Renata Alleyne. Held in recognition of Women’s History Month, attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their “Sunday Best” with a touch of “Hattitude.” Tickets are $60 and the registration deadline is March 20. ‘Rooted in Resilience: Women Cultivating the Future of Agriculture’ at Rutgers Eco Complex
What does the future of farming look like? A coalition of New Jersey agricultural organizations is inviting Burlington County residents to find out. Hosted by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, New Jersey Farm Bureau, New Jersey Agricultural Society and the Vegetable Growers of New Jersey, “Rooted in Resilience: Women Cultivating the Future of Agriculture” takes place on Sunday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rutgers EcoComplex in Bordentown. The event will feature Fallon Davis, founder of STEAM Urban, an organization that supports the development of Black students in underserved communities through science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Burlington County Offers $5,000 in Scholarships for Graduating Female Seniors
Just in time for Women’s History Month, Burlington County graduating high school seniors have until April 15 to apply for one of five $1,000 scholarships through the Burlington County Commissioners and Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council. Sponsored in partnership with the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Virtua Health and Remington & Vernick Engineers, the scholarships are available in four categories: future leadership and advocacy, entrepreneurship, STEM and health care. Applications are open to female graduating seniors from Burlington County. All applications must be received by 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 15.
